STATEMENT OF PURPOSES


The purposes of the Association are:

1.1 To support members suffering from Spino-Cerebellar Ataxia, their caretakers and families.

1.2 To advance the interest of members regarding the treatment of Spino- Cerebellar Ataxia and to support research into this disease.

1.3 To promote within the organization, the formation of Social and Cultural  groups and groups with other interests for the benefit of the Members.

1.4 To publicize the nature of SCA using all media including the Internet.

2. Solely for the purpose of furthering the purposes set out above, the Association shall have power:

2.1 To subscribe to, become a member of and co-operate with any other association, club or organization, whether incorporated or not, whose objects are altogether or in part similar to those of the Association provided that the Association shall not subscribe to or support with its funds any club, association or organization which does not prohibit the distribution of its income and property among its members to an extent at least as great as that imposed on the Association under or by virtue of the Rules.

2.2 To amalgamate with one or more incorporated associations having objects altogether or in part similar to those of the Association and which shall prohibit the distribution of its or their income and property among its or their members to an extent at least as great as that imposed upon the Association by virtue of the Rules.

2.3 To accept and make donations for research into Spino-Cerebellar Ataxia and related illnesses purposes.

2.4 To do all such things as are allowed by Section 16 of the Association Incorporation Act 1981.

2.5 To do all such things as are allowed in the context of section 23 (g) (ii) of the Australian Income Tax Assessment Act.

2.6 To do all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objects and the exercise of the powers of the Association.

3 Clauses 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 are subject to approval of the Members at a General or Special General Meeting.
